The Del Norte High track and field team will make the short jaunt over the border to compete at the Brookings Rotary Track Invitational on Saturday.

Head coach Scott Lindsay said the meet will have about 20 teams, including several top-notch Oregon schools.

With conference meets coming up and state in June, it's important to do well at the upcoming meets, he said.

"This is the midpoint," Lindsay said. "We need to get the aches and pains out of the way."

Recently, a number of injuries have hit the squad. While the majority were just minor aches and pains, a more serious injury struck senior Bryce Lund. Lund is out with a tailbone injury. Lindsay said it's uncertain when, or if, he will return.

Last year, Lund won four events at the Big 5 Conference Championships.

Also, several team members were out of the area and unable to participate in the track meet in Eureka on April 4.

"This meet (in Brookings) should give us a good idea of where we're at," Lindsay said. "It's been hard to tell with injuries and spring break,"

This week, practice has been going well, with many members of the team working hard to prepare for Saturday's meet, according to Lindsay. He added that the coaches have been working closely with team members on fundamentals.

After Brookings, the team will compete at the McKinleyville Track Meet on Wednesday. Afterwards, the Warriors have two track meets on consecutive days.

On April 20, the squad will travel to the Chico Track Invitational. On April 21, they are scheduled to be at the Yreka Track Invitational.
