The Del Norte High softball team earned two wins in doubleheader action against Brookings/Harbor on Saturday.

The victories in Brookings boosted the Warriors mark to 7-0 for the season.

In the first game, Del Norte won 3-1. Pitcher Alyssa Bergquist earned eight strikeouts, had five walks and no earned runs in the win.

Third baseman Michelle Stacey went 2-for-3 with a single, a homerun and two RBI's.

"She's been a solid player so far," head coach Jackie Heuberger said.

In the second game, pitcher McKinnze Holden continued the strong pitching with five strikeouts, no walks and one earned run.

Heuberger commended her pitchers for their continued outstanding pitching to help the team win games.

While she was pleased to win two games on the road, the team did not hit as well as Heuberger would had liked. At times, she said, the squad seemed too tentative in the batters box.

Although "It feels good," to have a perfect record, the team needs to keep playing strong and maintain its momentum, Heuberger said.

Last year, she said, the Warriors were 5-2 around this time, before some mid-season struggles occurred and Del Norte finished with a 12-12 mark.

"They just have to keep playing to their abilities," Heuberger said.

Del Norte next plays on Friday at a two-day tournament in Arcata.
