After losing the first four games of the season, The Del Norte High boys varsity baseball team broke its drought with a vengeance, dominating Ferndale on the road to win both games Friday afternoon

The first game saw the Warriors winning 11-1 and keeping on a winning track with a 15-8 victory in the second contest.

It was nice to grab the two wins after getting blasted by Brookings at home on Wednesday 13-1, head coach Pablo Lorenzi said.

"We're making progress," he said. "It's nice to be on the winning side."

Lorenzi said the players bats were hot on Friday, which was an encouraging sight to see.

"We hit the ball real well," he said. "That's the big difference."

Pitching was also strong, with Kevin Walsworth thowing in the first game and Evan O'Brien on the mound in the second game.

"The pitchers did a real good job," Lorenzi said. "They kept the batters off balance."

Fielding also looked strong, with several players making nice plays, including a few nifty doubles plays, he said.

In the first game, Joey Yeoman had a triple, a double and a single and scored three runs.

Justin Yslas went 2-3 with a single and scored in a run. In the second game, he continued his sharp hitting, going 2-3 with a single and a double and scored a run.

Besides pitching well, Walsworth also hit well, going 2-4 with two singles.

Tyler Travis was 2-3 with a single and a double and scored in a run. Travis also did well in the second game, going 2-4 and scored in three runs.

Chris Harrision went 3-4 in the second game and had two singles, a double and scored in two runs.

The team also seemed to be more relaxed overall and not as uptight as previous games, Lorenzi said.

The Warriors next play on Tuesday at home against Grants Pass in doubleheader action.

The first game begins at 2 p.m.
