December occupancy rates improve at Northcoast hotels

Hotel occupancy rates improved along the Northcoast in December from the year before.

December hotel occupancy in the Eureka/Crescent City area was 48.4 percent. Smith Travel Research reports.

That compares to 46.5 percent during December 2005, marking a 4.1 percent increase.

The average room rate charged was $64.02, compared to $59.52 a year ago. Revenue per available room was $31.01, compared to $27.65 a year ago, which marks a 12.2 percent change.

Occupancy during the December 2006 period was 61.2 percent, a 1 percent increase from December 2005's 60.6 percent.

The average room rate of $71.11 over the previous December's $66.55 showed an increase of 6.9 percent.

Sixty-nine properties that comprised 3,026 rooms participated in the December survey.
