The Del Norte High boys basketball team was able to obtain a much-needed win at the 11th annual Hornet Classic in Redding on Saturday, defeating Kennedy High 57-52 to garner seventh- place.

Friday evening, the Warriors (8-5) fell to Del Oro 53-41. Thursday evening, Del Norte lost to Foothill High 60-51.

"It was nice to win," head coach Blaine Lopez said. "It's hard when you are playing the last game of a tournament."

Del Norte did a better job maintaining its intensity and limiting costly turnovers, which Lopez said he wants to make sure his team does at all times.

In the previous two games, the Warriors turned the ball over more than 25 times in each contest.

Bryce Lund and Scott Redmond led Warrior scorers with 15 points each. Michael Daniels contributed 11 points.

On Thursday, Del Norte plays Ferndale in an away game at 7:30 p.m.

The girls basketball team was not in action over the weekend. Their next game is Wednesday against Hoopa.
