Local offices close in honor of Ford

January 02, 2007 12:00 am

A number of government offices will be closed today as President George W. Bush has declared a national day of mourning for former President Gerald Ford.

The order affects the Crescent City and Smith River post offices. Their employees will be out in force early Wednesday, however, to collect mail that hasn't been processed.

Also closed will be U.S. Forest Service offices.

The executive order does not affect local governments. Del Norte County offices will be open today.

The Crescent City Council canceled its meeting today due to short work weeks from the Christmas and New Year's holidays. The next Crescent City Council meeting will take place Jan. 16 at 6 p.m. in the Cultural Center on Front Street.
