Library will hold logo contest for 100th birthday

The Del Norte Public Library District plans to host a logo contest in the community — open to children and adults — as a way to spark public interest and catch attention as the library celebrates its 100th birthday in 2007.

Library board trustees aim to use the winning logo at booths and on merchandise at fundraisers and events that the library participates in, such as the Coastal Redwoods Tall Ships Festival in May.

"We're kind of generic. We're in a plain, brown wrapper right now," said board trustee Karen Rath of the library's lack of identity.

The board plans to develop guidelines for the contest and accept entries until March 1.

The library board next meets at 11:30 a.m. Jan. 16.
