A Crescent City man charged with producing child pornography and attempted child molestation pleaded guilty to both charges Friday.

Tracy Haggard, 36, was arrested Oct. 10 and charged with felony child endangerment, possession of child pornography, lewd and lascivious conduct with a minor between the ages of 14 and 15 and sexual battery.

Haggard was acting as the victim's caretaker at the time of the alleged offense, District Attorney Mike Riese. Haggard also allegedly gave or allowed the victim — who is diabetic — alcohol, which raised the victim's blood sugar level to four times the normal level.

Haggard's attorney, Darren McElfresh, requested a psychological evaluation be conducted on Haggard prior to his Jan. 11 sentencing date.

McElfresh could not be reached for comment Friday afternoon.

Haggard, who is facing 3 1/2 years if he receives the maximum sentence, will be a registered sex offender.

Riese said he's pleased with the guilty plea.

"I'm always happy when I don't have to have a child relive the crimes that happened to them, be cross examined and (have to) disclose in front of a jury," he said. "It helps get closure much sooner and at less cost to the victim."
