A thousand people took the opportunity to go jammin at Jed Saturday.

The Seventh Annual Jammin at Jed concert was held Saturday at Jedediah Smith State Park, with attendance numbers remaining roughly the same as last year, according to Del Norte Childcare Council Executive Director Chris McCollum.

We did really well at the gate and food booths, she said.

The Childcare Council, which puts on the yearly event, also receives most of the funding, using it to benefit the areas children.

Attendance looked a little sparser than last year, earlier in the day, but improved as the weather brightened McCollum said.

The Childcare Council has yet to collect money from some of the vendors at the event, but early returns from the gate indicate profits roughly the same as last years, McCollum said.

Last years event generated approximately $5,000 in profits.

Local favorites the Static Ramblers appeared early in the day, followed by the Toyes and Sugar and the Road Rockets.

Money from this years event will be used to fund the councils after school programs at Bess Maxwell, Mary Peacock and Pine Grove schools.

Organizers hope to increase that funding amount next year.

McCollum believes next years event should be more heavily publicized in Southern Oregon which is where many of the spectators hailed from.
