Help build ramp for caboose

Our family recently mourned the passing of Bob Bolen, known fondly to us as "Uncle Bob," and to many in the community, as a doer, friend and champion of Del Norte County. While we continue to mourn our loss, we (his family) have decided to uphold Uncle Bob's last wish, which was to build a ramp for access to the caboose at the Del Norte County Fairgrounds.

As many of you may know, Bob was instrumental in getting the "Bolen Annex" expansion and addition built on to the Del Norte Historical Society Museum. He was a partner in helping to restore the Point St. George Reef Lighthouse Preservation Society and had done much research regarding lighthouses and trains in our area. Bob was instrumental in getting the Redwood School No. 2 relocated from North Bank Road to the fairgrounds and renovated, even milling some of the lumber himself to make sure it matched the old siding. Until 1998, when an accident left him a quadriplegic, he had helped to maintain the school house. The Hobbs Wall and Company caboose relocated to the fairgrounds would not have been placed for public viewing or refurbished without "Uncle Bob" leading the way.

Uncle Bob took much pride in his work to restore a part of our history so that we could all share it and be proud of it. We are asking you to help us make Uncle Bob's last wish become a reality by donating funds to build a ramp for access to the Hobbs Wall and Co. caboose at the fairgrounds. Donations may be sent to 41st District Agricultural Association, c/o Bob Bolen Memorial Ramp, 421 U.S. Hwy. 101 North, Crescent City, Calif., 95531.

Thank you for helping to preserving our local history.
