Bench dedication honors Dickson

Council to tour new footbridge

A tour of the new Harbor Trail foot bridge near the “S” curve on U.S. Highway 101 on Monday by the Crescent City Council will also include the dedication of a cement bench to Michelle Ashlee Dickson, the 23-year-old Crescent City woman who was murdered last summer.

The bench, which was donated by Dickson’s family, sits on the southern side of the bridge and faces the estuary of Elk Creek. Dickson’s mother, Sandy Davis, said anyone wishing to come to the ceremony is invited to attend.

Crescent City recently completed the Harbor Trail Bridge as part of its plan to have a coastal pedestrian path that runs from the harbor to Pebble Beach Drive.

The bridge is just one facet of the $1 million Harbor Trail project that included the installation of restrooms and a parking lot near the Shoreline RV Park at the end of Sunset Circle.

With its completion, the Harbor Trail is also part of the California Coastal Trail, which, once finished, will stretch 1,200 miles from Mexico to the Oregon border.

The Crescent City Council will begin its tour at 4 p.m. Monday at the bridge, and will hold its normally scheduled meeting afterward at the Flynn Administration Center, located at 981 H St. The regular council meeting begins at 6 p.m.
