Bella was found lying on the side of a Del Norte County road, having been hit by a car. She was picked up by a local concerned citizen, put in a cardboard box and delivered to the Del Norte County Animal Shelter.
Things did not look good for Bella; she was listless and not moving. Del Norte County Animal Control took Bella to a local veterinary hospital for an evaluation of her injuries and what would probably be a not-so-good prognosis for her future.
What a surprise to hear that the veterinarian felt that Bella could be saved and that he and his staff were willing to donate surgery and care for Bella.
Over time, Bella outgrew her kennel space at the hospital and it was felt that she would be better off back at the Del Norte County shelter where staff, in cooperation with the Humane Society of Del Norte, could network Bella for adoption or rescue.
Soon, Bella was taken in by a humane society in central Oregon where she was networked by them and eventually adopted by a very nice elderly couple in Oregon.
These wonderful new owners of Bella had connections of their own and were able to impress Oregon State University enough about her plight that the university is now donating new and innovative rehabilitation and therapeutic treatments and further corrective procedures for Bella.
Bella is now seen on campus at OSU for her regular appointments for swimming and routine examinations and evaluations.
Bella is truly a miracle dog.
