Warrior Memories: Looking for help in finding the family of Rod Griffin

By Dick Trone November 28, 2011 05:11 pm

Former three-sport Warrior standout Rod Griffin was elected into the Del Norte High School Athletic Hall of Fame last September. Rod was a former teammate of mine.

Unfortunately, Rod passed away several years ago. Since we were unable to locate any of his family, I received the award for Rod at the induction ceremony.

Now, as a member of the Hall of Fame committee, I am asking for help in finding a family member to present Rod’s award to. I know that after graduating from Del Norte, he went on to the University of California, Berkeley.

After graduating from Cal, I was told that he went into business somewhere in the Bay Area. If anyone that reads this column can give me help, I know his family would appreciate receiving the honor given to Rod.

He was a real part of Warrior history, not only as an athlete, but also as an outstanding student and all-around good guy.

I can be reached by phone at 954-8582. The phone is almost always in my pocket so I can be reached at any time.

I know Rod’s family would really like to receive the award.

Dick Trone writes on his reflections and the history of Del Norte High Warrior sports. Trone, who played football for the Warriors and graduated in 1951, had an illustrious career on the gridiron at Humboldt State University. Trone was head football coach at Del Norte High for a number of years before retiring.
