Proud to see play performed here

I am proud of Del Norte County for supporting the local presentations of “The Vagina Monologues” (March 31, April 7, April 14).

Communities that care about what are often called “women’s issues” (domestic violence, sexual assault, health care, child care, education, etc.) are always stronger and more successful.

Well done, Del Norte County! And a sincere thank-you to all who are involved.

DA’s past has no smoking guns

There are no words to describe what I read in the Sacramento Bee regarding our district attorney, Jon Alexander.

I was actually shocked that the Bee would have such detailed information about Mr. Alexander since we are here in the Greater Northwest! And why now when most of the article focused on issues that have already been addressed? Is this a vendetta?

It would sure be interesting to know who all these problematic people are. When you have a grievance against someone, whether political or personal, deal with it like an adult. I find smearing very juvenile and eventually when the truth comes out, will come back on you. I think that's referred to as karma!

So let’s get real here for a minute. Jon Alexander was featured in a lengthy article in the October 2011 edition of California Lawyer. I suggest that everyone who wants to know about Mr. Alexander and his past, read this article. It is open, honest and it made me proud to know that Jon has come so far!

He is an asset to our community and an example for those who are still lost in the muck and mire of a horrible drug addiction in this community. Throwing stones is not the answer.

Media part of left wing army

It seems our news media has formally become part of the left wing “seek and destroy” army.

ABC, CBS, MSNBC, NBC, et al are giving a pass to everything the liberals do or say and making any conservatives pay for their “indiscretions.”

For example, on March 6, MSNBC and CNN criticized Rush Limbaugh for his remarks about Sandra Fluke but said nothing about the utterly vulgar language of Bill Maher who has repeatedly denigrated conservative ladies.

CNN’s Piers Morgan said “Limbaugh’s disgusting comments — who thinks it’s okay to degrade decent young women for sport and ratings. Well shame on you Rush Limbaugh.”

Where are the women’s groups to stand up for all women when they are being verbally harassed with sexually explicit comments from the likes of Bill Maher? The president even called Miss Fluke to console her but has never even commented on the vile language of people on his side of every issue.

Many more examples of this trash talk by the left can by found at Media Research Center.

Disagree with Doonesbury choice

As a regular reader I am saddened that my local paper has chosen to censor Doonesbury’s latest foray into the Texas abortion issue, and wonder why they would do that without offering an explanation.

I find it a little odd that our paper is willing to print strongly worded opinions from the extreme poles of our political spectrum, but are unwilling to print what is clearly the personal opinion of one cartoonist.

Editor’s note: A little late, admittedly, an explanation of the decision regarding Doonesbury will appear in a Tuesday Editor’s Notes column.
