Fifty-five students will graduate from College of the Redwoods’ Del Norte Education Center this Friday. Commencement will begin at 7 p.m. in Mary Peacock Elementary School. The graduates will hear from two commencement speakers: entrepreneurs Ellery and Gail West, who own Organic Essence, a line of natural health products. Interim CR President/Superintendent Dr. Utpal K. Goswami and CRDN Trustee Rick Bennett will present diplomas and certificates to graduates. Christian Taylor will be honored as the outstanding graduate. Steven Bevier, who will receive an associate degree, will lead the Pledge of Allegiance. CR Del Norte Education Center Dean Anita Janis will deliver the opening remarks. The graduates will be introduced by Counselor Becky Blatnick and Associate Professor Robert Horel. The Del Norte High School Stage Band and the CR Del Norte Chorale will provide musical entertainment during commencement. A reception will follow the graduation ceremony. Del Norte’s Faculty Member of the Year is Professor Mike Haley (mathematics). Associate Faculty Member of the Year is Deborah Gerth (English). The Classified Staff Member of the Year is Jim Graham (institutional technology technician). The 55 students who will receive associate degrees are: Laura Adams, Laura Jo Battaglieri, Steven M.
