Obituary: Martha I. Higgins Barnes (Sept. 26, 1917 – May 12, 2012)

Martha I. Higgins Barnes, 94 years young, born Sept. 26, 1917, crossed over to the Lord May 12, 2012, at 12:25 pm in Rogue Valley Hospital, Medford, Ore.

Martha one of five children born in Arkansas. She and her brothers and sisters were raised In a Masonic orphanage in Batesville, Ark. She was a published author and worked most of her later life as a legal secretary.

Martha was a  member in good standing of the  Crescent City Women’s Club, Del Norte Chapter #149, Order of the Eastern Star, Zuleima No.13 Daughters of the Nile, also member of the Red Hats, and she was a member of the Leaf Lady’s.

She was preceded in death by husbands Harvey H. Higgins and Raymond Barnes. Mother, father, sister Lois Moore, brothers Ivan and David Watkins of Bakersfield, all preceded her in death.

 Leaving sister Alta King, nieces Suzan Davidson, and Rose McGillivray, nephew Roger DeFord. Niece Deborah Covington, and daughter Katherine Camilli, granddaughter Samantha Bernal and new great-grandson Jaxon Bernal.

Memorial services will be held at the Masonic Temple, 250 9th Street, Crescent City, on June 1, 2012 at 5 p.m.

Arrangements are under the direction of Wier’s Mortuary Chapel of Crescent City.
