Ralph Allsop passed away at his home in Crescent City on June 3, 2012. He was born on June 4, 1934, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Robert and Kay Allsop. He served in the United States Marine Corps, serving in Korea. Upon returning home he attended Brigham Young University, where he majored in Psychology. He then went on a two-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to Brazil. He worked at the California Youth Authority, Chino, and transferred to the San Bernardino County Probation Department. In 1979, he transferred to the Del Norte County Probation Office, where he became the Chief of Probation until he retired in 1999. He was very active in his efforts to plan, build, and finalize a new Probation Hall for the county, meeting with those in Sacramento that could help make this happen.
He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day
Saints, and served as the Bishop of the Crescent City Ward for five
years. He always said the church and the church activities were his
hobby.
More than anything, he loved to be with his family. He leaves behind
Shari Allsop, wife of 41 years. He also leaves a sister, Karen Newman,
of Silver Springs, Md. Children include Denise and Joe Arispe, Gasquet;
Susie Allsop, Newberg, Ore.; Jon and Charlene Van Alstine, Crescent
City; Debbie and Richard Weber, Medford, Ore.; David and Keri Allsop,
Pasco, Wash.; Julie and Pete Melanson, Beaverton, Ore.; and Joseph
Allsop, Portland, Ore.
Grandchildren include: Michael and Amber Cunningham; Emily, Joey,
and Sarah Arispe; Jake Allsop; Steven and Justin Weber; Kylee; Kyle, and
Kylissa Moodie, Ronnie and Joey Waynscott, Gavin and Georgia Van
Alstine; Devan, Libby, and Derik Allsop; Connor, Courtney, and Mallory
Melanson.
Visitation will be held at Wier’s Mortuary Chapel on Wednesday, June 6, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-day Saints, on the corner of 10th and A Streets, on Thursday,
June 7, at 9 a.m.
Arrangements are under the direction of Wier’s Mortuary Chapel.
