Kings Valley, Del Norte G.C. host tournaments
For the women of the Del Norte Ladies Golf Club, Saturday’s Rally For The Cure Event at Del Norte Golf Course was a lighter time in support of a serious cause.
The 39 golfers combined to raise $3,000 for the Susan G. Komen Foundation, increase awareness of breast cancer and its impact and test their golfing mettle.
“The whole idea behind it is to get people to have fun and encourage people,” said Jane Rumiano, the event organizer. “Get them out to the golf course and give (golf a try).”
All skill levels were welcome in the competition, a four-person scramble format.
Rumiano, Tamara Lee and Gaylin Beckley won with a low score of 35 despite lacking a fourth player. The foursome of Sue Ryan, Stormy Dunsmore, Andrea Galli and Kelli Ryan garnered runner-up honors (36), with the foursome of Sue Root, Mary Foote, Amanda Talburt and Pamela Eads taking third place (38).
Rumiano earned closest to pin honors on the day, while Marilyn Heyer won the event’s accuracy contest.
Kings Valley Tournament
Kings Valley Golf Course celebrated Father’s Day in a more traditional fashion Sunday with its Father-Son/Father-Daughter Tournament. Each two-person team played 18 holes on the day.
The father-son team of Duane and James Haban captured first place in the tournament’s open division. Morgen and Chris Fischer tied with Steve and Dave Campbell for second place; Greg and Mike Dillon tied with Steve and Mike Stanovich for fourth place.
In the under-15 division, Cris and Aden Rice took first-place honors, followed by Steve Maready and Josh Lopez, Mike and Jared Dixon, T.R. and Sylas Samples, Bob and Sage Rice, and Ryan and Joaquin Young.
Jared Dixon (second hole) and Joe Gillespie (third hole) both earned closest to pin honors during the tournament.
