Del Norte Sunrise Rotary Club was recognized at a Bess Maxwell student assembly recently for the club’s restoration of the school’s United States map.

Over the course of several weekends in May, volunteers from the club restored a large-scale map of the contiguous United States, Alaska and Hawaii, that is located on the school’s playground.

During the assembly, the Sunrise Rotary Club was presented a large “thank you” poster that was signed by every student and staff member at Bess Maxwell School. On that poster is a photograph of all Bess Maxwell students gathered around the borders of the restored map. In addition, all the third-grade students wrote thank- you letters. When the school principal asked the assembled students who wanted to thank the Sunrise Rotary Club, every student raised a hand.
