The Del Norte Little League 9–10 Softball All-Stars lost their first game of the California Little League Division II Tournament on Thursday night in West Sacramento, losing their safety net in the process.

Del Norte allowed seven runs in the fifth inning to Gilroy Little League in a 12-1, five-inning loss. Gilroy moves on to Sunday’s championship game with the victory.

“We left 13 runners on base,” Del Norte coach Mark Horner said. “It’s key hitting that we didn’t get last night. We stayed with them the first few innings.”

Horner said that the game temperature at the first pitch was 108 degrees, the hottest conditions the 9–10 All-Stars had faced in the tournament.

Del Norte plays the winner of Friday night’s game between Chico Little League (who the 9–10 All-Stars beat on Tuesday night) and Peach Bowl Little League of Yuba City. (The result was unavailable at press time.) The game takes place at 11 a.m. today in West Sacramento.
