Jessie Oleva (“Ollie”) Clausen, a former longtime Crescent City resident and the wife of former U.S. Rep. Don Clausen, has died at age 93.

The couple had moved to Fortuna recently, and Mrs. Clausen died Tuesday at Fortuna Rehabilitation & Wellness Center after a short illness.

Don Clausen, a former Crescent City businessman and Del Norte County supervisor, served in Congress from 1963 to 1983.

After they left the Washington, D.C., area, the couple moved to Santa Rosa. Last April, they moved to the Sequoia Springs Assisted Living and Retirement Community in Fortuna.

Mrs. Clausen was an avid cook, known for her award-winning lemon meringue pies, homemade butterhorn rolls and Danish aebleskivers. She published her own cookbook of favorite recipes, which she distributed to many friends and family members.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 12, at the McKinleyville Seventh-day Adventist Church.
