Jessie Oleva (“Ollie”) Clausen of Fortuna, California, died Tuesday, July 24, 2012, in Fortuna Rehabilitation & Wellness Center after a short illness. She was 93 and a great-grandmother.

Born in Mansfield, Douglas County, Washington, October 10, 1918, to Nicholas and Belle Ross Piper, Ollie was the wife of former U.S. Congressman Don H. Clausen (R-CA), and a longtime resident of Crescent City. In the Washington, D.C., area, she lived with her husband in Takoma Park, Md., and Springfield, Va., before returning to California, where the couple lived in Santa Rosa after Don was retired from Congress. In April 2012, they moved to Sequoia Springs Assisted Living and Retirement Community in Fortuna.

Ollie was an avid cook, known for her award-winning lemon meringue pies, her homemade butterhorn rolls, and her exquisite Danish aebleskivers. She even published her own cookbook of favorite recipes, which she distributed to many friends and family members.

Ollie is survived by her husband, Don, two daughters — Bev and her husband Bob Mendenhall, and Dawn Marie and her husband Jim Baumgartner. Other survivors include a sister, two sisters-in-law, many nieces and nephews, as well as four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, August 12, 2012, at the McKinleyville Seventh-day Adventist Church in McKinleyville, Calif.
