New show up in courthouse

The new Art in Public places exhibit up in the Del Norte County Courthouse is “Play as an Art Form” by local artist BJ Clausen.  

This colorful show consists of 13 pieces in watercolor, collage and mixed media, and will hang through Nov. 1.  For more information, call DNACA at 464-1336.  

 

 

Harbor Gallery activities

Crescent Harbor Gallery’s exhibit for September is its annual Juried Art Show, and its annual Juried Photo Show is coming up in October. “Creative Mondays” continue to be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each Monday. The gallery’s annual salmon luncheon, as provided by Sammy Gensaw and family, will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sept. 22.

Storytelling Festival opens

The 13th annual Storytelling Festival by the Sea kicks off at 6:15 p.m. on Friday  at the Trinidad Town Hall on Main Street in Trinidad.

  This two-day event includes stories well lived, a California Indian stage, round robin telling, a youth stage, tandem telling, musical interludes and a Friday Night Live! session, with stories of the North Coast.  Master storyteller this year is Cynthia Restivo, who came to storytelling after touring Europe as an actor with International Theatre.

   Members of the North Coast Storytellers Guild, a program of The Ink People Center for the Arts in Eureka, and special guests include Ali Freedlund, Elizabeth Gahm, Seabury Gould, Elizabeth Lara-O’Rourke, Mary Lawrence, Ross Mackinney, Nancy McQuillen, Dan O’Gara, Anita Punla and Cynthany Windwalker. Gala Young Artists Concert

The Friends of Music (FOM) kicks off its 2012-13 performance series at 3 p.m. on Sunday with a Gala Young Artists Concert, presenting winners of the first annual $6,000 FOM College Scholarship Competition.

 Featured will be Tye Austin (guitarist), Tatianna Ashheichyk (pianist) and Alicia Baker (vocalist).  This initial concert is free to the public, and will be held at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 102 Park Ave., Brookings, found by turning north on Fern Avenue off U.S. Highway 101.  Information: call (541) 469-7625 or -3473. 

 

Pistol River concert Sept. 22

The Pistol River Concert Association presents Hanz Araki and Kathryn Claire playing traditional music at 8 p.m. on Sept. 22 in the Pistol River Friendship Hall.
