Firefighters team up with Santa

In conjunction with Santa’s Workshop, local volunteer firefighters have ignited a program this year to make sure more kids in need get gifts.

“Firefighters’ Spark of Love: Fill a Fire Truck” toy drive will kick-off tomorrow at Walmart Super Center’s grand opening, with fire department volunteers dressed up like elves handing out flyers with information on the program. [Dana will call me tomorrow with the time]

The goal will be to fill the back of the “Rehab Rig #7” with toys, according to volunteer Fire Captain Dana Reno.

“What we found out from Ron (Phillips) is that 60 or 70 kids didn’t get toys,” said Reno, referring to mittens that went unaccounted for.

“We wanted to take a different spin this year to spark more interest,” said volunteer firefighter Blaine Hurley, “to get more people out there to put up more trees that’ll help out more kids.”

“Every child deserves a toy for Christmas,” said volunteer firefighter and EMT Crystal Young.

Unwrapped toys can be dropped off at the Crescent Fire Protection District at 255 W. Washington Blvd. For information call 464-2421.
