DN varsity, JV both fall to Eagle Point 

Doug Ovick and Steven Maready scored nine points apiece for Del Norte High as the Eagle Point (Ore.) defeated the Warriors’ varsity boys basketball team, 44-33, on Thursday night at Del Norte High School.

Eagle Point led 10-8 after the first quarter before embarking on a 15-4 run in the second quarter. Del Norte (3-5 overall) cut the deficit to 10 points at halftime and allowed the Eagles to score four total field goals in the second half but could not overcome Eagle Point’s defensive pressure.

Cesar Chavez led the Eagles with 19 points.

The Del Norte junior varsity team lost to the Eagles, 52-43, on Monday night. The Warriors’ record dropped to 2-7 overall, their last win coming Dec. 13 at Illinois Valley.

The Del Norte boys travel to Eureka to play St. Bernard’s Catholic High on Wednesday. Freshman teams will play at 4 p.m., followed by the junior varsity game at 5:30 p.m. and the varsity game at 7 p.m.

DN girls JV wins over Eagle Point 

Kayla Costello scored 14 points as the Del Norte High junior varsity girls basketball team defeated Eagle Point, 35-21, at Del Norte High School on Monday night.

The Warriors outscored the Eagles 14-6 in the first quarter and kept up their defensive pressure throughout the game, allowing Eagle Point eight points in the second half.

Del Norte improved to 6-2 overall after finishing second in a two-day tournament in Fortuna on Dec. 14–15. The Warriors defeated the host Huskies and Eureka High before losing to McKinleyville High in the tournament championship game.

Del Norte travels to Grants Pass to take on Hidden Valley High today. The game begins at 4:30 p.m.
