Donald “Don” W. Bush passed away during the night at his home on February 19, 2013, from an extended-term illness. His wife, Lambert, was there with him through their 59 years of marriage. He was born in Glenwood, Minn., on January 20, 1929.

As a young man, Don served in the United States Air Force and met Lambert in Arcata, Calif., in 1951. Don worked at various saw mills in Willow Creek, Fort Seward, Arcata, Trinidad, Orick, and Smith River. He has permanently made his home in Crescent City since 1972. When the sawmill closed in Smith River, Don got a job for the State of California at the California Border Inspection Stations for a few years before finally securing employment back in Crescent City as an Agriculture Inspector and then was the Agriculture Commissioner for Del Norte County until his retirement. Don loved to play cards and cribbage, enjoyed golfing and bowling, along with having coffee with his friends.

Don is survived by his wife, Lambert, and daughter, Sherril “Sher” Bush of Crescent City; grandson Robert “Robbie” Wilson and wife Marguerite of Woodland, Calif.; brother Richard “Dick” Bush and wife Christy along with niece Pam of Salem, Ore.; son-in-law Dean Wilson and wife Mary with grandchildren Wyatt, Lily, and Abigael “Abby” of Crescent City. He was preceded in death by his daughter Carolyn “Carre” Wilson.

Per Don’s request, there will be no memorial service and the family asks that no flowers be sent. Contributions can be made to the Del Norte County Cancer Society.
