After unseasonably dry weather for most of the winter, Crescent City set a record Tuesday with 2.02 inches of rain — the most ever recorded for that date, according to the National Weather Service.

One local weather-watcher reported 3 inches of rain over a 24-hour period ending Wedensday morning on his Crescent City gauge.

The previous official record was 1.67 inches in 1987.

From Tuesday morning through Wednesday afternoon, the official rainfall total for Crescent City was  2.88 inches.

Elsewhere, from Tuesday morning to Wednesday afternoon, there were 3.02 inches of rain at the Dr. Fine Bridge near Smith River, 3.40 inches in Gasquet, and 2.72 inches in Klamath.

There’s a 40 percent chance of showers today, with cold but clear conditions expected later in the day and on Friday.
