An Oregon man was Tasered and arrested Tuesday after allegedly assaulting park rangers near Crescent Beach.

A Redwood National Park ranger was searching for the driver of a vehicle with an attached trailer with 2-year-old license plate tags that was parked in the picnic area near the beach around 5 p.m. when a man in the trailer refused to come out, said Ranger Dave Keltner.

The man, later identified as 52-year-old Selma resident Secundido Baez, indicated to officers that he had a gun, Keltner said.

He eventually came out “acting very angry” and began putting up a fight when a ranger attempted to take the firearm away from him, Keltner said.

He was tackled and tasered as a result, Keltner said.

The rangers had interrupted Baez as he was giving a tattoo to another person in the back of the trailer, Keltner said.

Baez was arrested on suspicion of assault with a semi-automatic rifle on a peace officer, carrying a loaded firearm, being a felon in possession of a firearm and carrying a concealed weapon.
