Roberta “Robbie” Billups died in her sleep in Crescent City, on March 13, 2013, while in the arms of her family.

Born as Roberta Holcomb on February 17, 1923, in Los Angeles. Robbie grew up in Los Angeles with her parents and four brothers, including her twin, Robert. As a young adult she moved for a short while to Brookings, Ore., where she made some lifelong friends. Upon returning to Los Angeles she met and married the love of her life, Noel Billups. When their children were still in grade school Robbie and Noel decided to move back up north, this time to Crescent City, where they spent the remainder of their life together.

Robbie’s family and friends will remember her for the great sense of fun she found in everyday events, her fabulous, infectious laughter, and her ever-present smile. She was always ready with a hand to aid anyone who could use a little help; helping others was the defining trait of her and Noel’s life.

After working in two local physician offices for 18 years Robbie retired, as did Noel. They purchased an RV, then spent the next 20 years traveling the country, making new friends along the way. Her children were proud of the active life she led in her golden years and, true to Robbie’s character, she indeed made them  golden.

Survivors are Robbie’s husband of 60 years, Noel; daughter Robin Tromble and son-in-law Lee Tromble of Crescent City; daughter Janet Billups of Portland, Ore., and son Kirk Billups of Crescent City. Robbie’s youngest child, Troy, preceded her in death. Grandchildren are Paul Tromble of Crescent City, Evan Billups of Portland, Amy Suschnick of Chico and Chris Billups of Crescent City. Robbie also leaves five great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at Wier’s Mortuary Chapel on Sunday, March 17, from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 18, at the Crescent City Seventh-day Adventist Church, 1770 Northcrest Drive, Mason Philpot officiating. Interment will follow services at the Del Norte County Veteran’s Cemetery.
