Del Norte County residents will soon have another option when it comes to shopping for auto parts locally.

A new Auto Zone is being constructed at the corner of U.S. Highway 101 and Cooper Avenue near Home Depot. The store is scheduled to open in September, said Tracy Houston, Auto Zone’s community relations manager. Stores employ about 10 people, she said.

“Our research has determined that Crescent City has the right number of OKVs,” Houston said, adding that OKV is a company acronym that stands for “our kind of vehicle.”

“It’s a good market,” Houston said.

OKVs are cars that are roughly seven years old, the age when people begin to think about replacing brakes, Houston said.

Other auto parts stores in Crescent City and Del Norte County include O’Reilly Auto Parts, Napa Auto Parts, 101 Auto & Machine and Carquest Auto Parts.
