Del Norte High golfer Kobie Lockwood tied for eighth place with a 3-over 75 at the California Interscholastic Federation North Coast Section Division 2 Championships, held Saturday at Rooster Run Golf Course in Petaluma.

Lockwood and eight other golfers went into a playoff for the eighth and final qualifying spot for the NCS Division 1 Tournament of Champions, but Lockwood was eliminated on the second playoff hole. Sir Francis Drake (San Anselmo) High’s Devin Gregg secured the eighth and final qualifying spot.

Matt Cutcliffe of the Marin Academy (San Rafael) was the tournament medalist, carding a 4-under 68.

“He had a good round,” Warriors coach Kirk Burrows said. “His putter went kind of cold on him.”

The playoff miss marked the end of a decorated freshman season for Lockwood. He won the Humboldt-Del Norte League individual championship on May 25, becoming the first Warriors golfer to accomplish that feat since James Haban in 2003.

“He’s got a great future ahead of him,” Burrows said.

Del Norte, as a team, finished fourth in the league with a young group. Four players — juniors Colin Wakefield and Miguel Pelayo and sophomores Conner Rideout and Zach Horner — played in every tournament for the Warriors this season, and only senior Anthony Kravitz, who played with Del Norte for the first half of the season, will graduate.
