It’s ‘not your typical nursery,’ says the co-owner of Worm’s Nursery and Garden Supply

A new garden supply store has taken root in Del Norte County, offering what co-owner Kim Corbin says is “not your typical nursery.”

Brother-and-sister-team Patrick and Kim Corbin held a grand opening May 18 for Worm’s Nursery and Garden Supply, located at 821 Elk Valley Road.

“My brother and I felt it would benefit this community to have a nursery that has low, comparable prices of different-sized gallon pots of trees and flowers in a wide range of colors,” said Kim Corbin. “We carry a variety of soil and nutrients.”

And to guarantee customers won’t buy infested or diseased greenery, she said all plants that come in are inspected by a local agriculturist.

“We have fruit trees that are acclimated to this area,” said Corbin, including Meyer lemon trees, which according to her are easy to grow here.

“There’s some really gorgeous colors in our rhododendrons,” she said.

The nursery also carries jasmine, weeping willows, huckleberry bushes and lavender. “We have a nice variety of plants.”

If you can’t find what you’re looking for, it can be special-ordered.

And to keep those plants thriving when planted at home, Worm’s Nursery also offers organic soil and nutrients, some of which are made locally.

“We’re helping local businesses by carrying their own line of organic nutrients,” Corbin said.

Eventually the Corbins would like to offer garden art and lawn furniture.

Worm’s Nursery is open Wednesdays through Sundays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Call 464-4447 for more information.
