Patricia Ann (Trish) Richards, 65, passed away peacefully in her sleep on June 8, 2013.

Born on March 13, 1948, in Meadville, Penn., she was raised in Los Angeles by parents Audine and Michael Koman. She attended Our Lady of Victory Elementary and Pius X Catholic High School in Downey, Calif.

After moving to Oregon, Trish met husband Michael Richards of Smith River in 1984 and married in 1986. Their daughter Ayla was born in 1987.

Trish was employed for 20 years as an instructional assistant by the Del Norte School District at Smith River Elementary and was a 20-year volunteer on a weekly basis at the Chetco Community Public Library in Brookings, Ore. She was also a past member of the Crescent City Emblem Club as well as a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church Women’s Society since 1989, with the past position of treasurer.

Trish was known for her love of mystery books and TV shows, and being an avid bingo player. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, and being a homemaker.

In addition to husband Michael and daughter Ayla, she is also survived by unofficially adopted daughter Monica Stauss-Vargas and her children, Dakin and Miriah Stauss and Abbi Vargas; she was stepmother to Haley Richards Blaise of Portland, Ore., and grandmother to her children, Trelynn Bentley and Adrianna Blaise, and was happy to include Haley’s husband, Ian, into the family. She also leaves behind brother Mark Koman and wife Dawn of North Bend, Ore., and brother Michael Koman and wife Maria of Youngstown, Ohio, as well as numerous maternal and paternal relations from Meadville, Penn., and Buffalo, N.Y. areas. She also leaves behind many Smith River relations including father-in-law Frank E. Richards, sister-in-law Denise Richards-Padgette and family, as well as numerous extended relations of husband Michael, held with deep fondness, respect, and gratitude for being welcomed into the family fold.

Celebration of life memorial potluck to be held at Howonquet Hall in Smith River on Saturday, June 15, at 1 p.m. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church at a later date.
