Doug passed away at home on June 15, 2013. He was born in Hemet, Calif., and attended public schools in Bakersfield. Doug graduated from Fresno State College with a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Arts. He taught at Dos Palos High School for 31 years, mainly in Industrial Arts (wood, metal and auto).

Retiring from Dos Palos High School in 1989, he moved to Crescent City. In Crescent City he continued working in his home wood shop. Doug enjoyed handgun target shooting and helped out in a gun store and also substituted as a teacher in the Del Norte County Schools. He particularly enjoyed traveling in his motor home, crossing the United States several times. Doug was a member of the Smith River Baptist Church, although he was unable to attend in the last few years. However, his faith in the Lord was great and unwavering.

Doug is survived by his wife Carol of Crescent City; son Richard and wife Debbie of Buffalo, N.Y.; sister Shirley of Hemet and several nieces and nephews. He also had many good friends in Crescent City, including an   adopted family of Matt, Vivienne, Addison, Trevor and Spencer, who loved him and will miss him.

Per request of family, there will be no services. Should anyone wish to commemorate him, donations to the Scholarship Fund at Lighthouse Quilt Guild, PO Box 2031, Crescent City, CA 95531 will be appreciated.
