Stagelights Musical Arts Community presents the second annual “Day of Drums,” a four-hour percussion workshop for all ages in Brookings on Saturday.

The event, sponsored by Lucky 7 Casino, features professional percussion teachers, a drum-making project, barbecue lunch and a drum circle. The cost is $10 per person.

“It doesn’t matter if you are six or 60, everyone will have a blast,” said organizer Scott Graves.

Sign-ups will be taken until 9:45 a.m. the day of the event, but space is limited to 60 people. Pre-registration forms may be picked up at the Curry Coastal Pilot, 507 Chetco Ave., and the Chetco Community Public Library, 405 Alder St., in Brookings.

Forms can also be downloaded from Stagelights Facebook page and its website at www.stagelights.us.

The event, led by professional percussionists Mombo Hernandez and Michael Penny, is set from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Harris Beach Rest Area (off Highway 101 across from Harris Beach State Park). Check-in time is 9:45 a.m.

Participants will learn about Latin and Native American hand drums, play a variety of percussion instruments, and make a shaker/rain stick. The event will culminate with a barbecue hot dog lunch and a group drum circle.

Successful fundraising has allowed Stagelights to reduce the cost of this year’s workshop to $10, which covers instruction, drum-making materials and lunch (courtesy of the Harbor Grocery Outlet).
