Just like the feeling of the firework finale, that disappointment that it’s over but the enjoyment of the show watched with oohs and aahs, our family lost its sparkle when she lost her four-year battle to cancer.

Carolyn Mehlhoff was born in McMinnville, Ore., to William and Ella Mehlhoff and grew up in Grants Pass, Ore., with her sister, Venieta and brother, Bill. She moved to Crescent City with her parents her senior year of high school.

Carolyn was a member of the Crescent City Women’s Club, Republican Women and the Emblem Club. She enjoyed the company of her Friday Lunch Group and monthly Bunko parties and many friends across the country that she and husband Ken would meet up with
every winter while they were snowbirding at their Yuma, Ariz., home.

Carolyn is survived by her husband Ken Wells and his children, Brian (Pam) and family, and Tony (Tina) Wells; daughter Sherry (Mark) Collins and son Steve (Angie) Nelson; grandchildren Dustin Wells, Kirsten Collins, Ketura Nelson, Alexandria Collins and Miranda Nelson; sister Venieta (Ed) Carr and brother Bill (Sharon) Mehlhoff; along with several nephews, nieces and great-grandchildren.

The family will have a private memorial service at a later date and request in lieu of flowers that donations be sent to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital P.O. Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101-9929 or Disabled American Veterans P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301.
