Obituary: Douglas Lloyd Meirndorf (June 29, 1950 – July 17, 2013)

Douglas Lloyd Meirndorf was born in Garberville, Calif., on June 29, 1950, and was a 54-year resident of Crescent City. He attended local schools and was a 1968 Del Norte High school graduate.

Doug worked in the timber industry for 45 years as a timber faller and heavy equipment operator. For the last 20 years he has worked on the road crew as a grader operator and was well known for his “Douggie Bars.” He loved to have family barbecues and to tease his grandchildren. His most favorite thing to do was bow hunt and he was very proud of his homemade quiver and arrows. He was a member of the Del-Cur Archery Club. He enjoyed reading Stephen King novels and loved the outdoors.

He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Brenda Meirndorf; daughter Jessica Turner (Jeremy); daughter Angela Calleja (O.J.); five grandchildren, Eric Turner, Colson Turner, Kurtis Turner, Maiah Calleja and li’l O.J. Calleja; father Lloyd Meirndorf (Pam); mother-in-law Evelyn Bachmann; sister Bobbie Halley (Dick); brother Chris Meirndorf ( Judy); sister Julie Shafer (Bob); brothers-in-law Larry Bachmann (Shari), Steve Bachmann (Karen) and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruth Meirndorf, and father-in-law George Bachmann.

The memorial service will be held at Wier’s Mortuary Chapel on July 27, 2013, at 10 a.m. with a reception following at the Veterans VFW Hall, 810 H Street, Crescent City.
