Meeting on water rates postponed

A special Crescent City Council meeting set for Monday to discuss the city’s water rates has been canceled.

The Council approved a contract with Temecula-based Willdan Financial to conduct an updated sewer and water rate analysis in March. The findings of that study were scheduled to be presented to the public on Monday, but staff was still working on it as of Thursday, according to City Manager Eugene Palazzo.

Water rates were also analyzed in the 2008–2009 fiscal year, but rates haven’t been changed in 12 years.

The Council approved the rate study after hearing a presentation about its capital improvement plan, which includes a $460,000 seismic retrofit of the city’s elevated water tank on Wonder Stump Road.

City staff is expected to come back with the study’s results at the Council’s regular meeting on Sept. 3, said Mayor Rich Enea.
