Mark Standring, 19, a 2011 graduate of Del Norte High School, is taking a break from his college work where he was studying applied physics at Brigham Young University, and is now serving a two-year mission based in Frankfurt, Germany, for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

After six weeks of German language instruction at the Mission Training Center in Provo, Utah, Mark arrived in Frankfurt in March, and then was assigned to his first area of Koln (or Cologne), Germany, where he is currently serving and now helping to train other new incoming missionaries.

Mark was especially excited to receive that assignment since he had previously traveled to Germany and sung outside that same cathedral in Koln with the Del Norte High Madrigal Choir, of which he was a member for four years.

He is the fifth son of Dr. Jim and Lori Standring of Crescent City to serve a church mission. Mark’s father, Jim, also served in Germany on a mission based in Dusseldorf as a young adult.
