Humboldt State University Police arrested Lowell Ranstrom, 48, of Eureka, a temporary campus employee, on Friday for allegedly making criminal threats, the school said in a press release.

He is being held in Humboldt County Jail.

The arrest was made peacefully, and police say they had no reason to believe there was any ongoing danger to the campus community, the release said.

Ranstrom has been employed by HSU as a temporary electrician for just over one year.

Police and human resources staff met with employees early this afternoon in the area where Ranstrom worked. They were briefed on the situation and had a chance to ask questions.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information may contact University Police at 707-826-5555.
