Jean Mary Jordan, 91, passed away on Oct. 7, 2013, in Crescent City. She was born on Jan. 22, 1922, in Rescue, Calif. She was a 69-year resident of Del Norte County.

Jean was always proud of her heritage as the grandchild of one of the founding families from Rescue, Calif., and of her grandfather who was the postmaster of Rescue for a very long time. He was presented an award by the President of the United States as the oldest postmaster in the country.

Jean lived in California her whole life. During World War II, she worked in San Francisco for Hewlett Packard making communication supplies for the war effort. She also lived for many years in Sacramento, where she owned a small restaurant in West Sacramento. Jean loved to cook and was an excellent cook. She then moved back to Crescent City to help her parents. At this time Jean married Horace Slim Jordan and they lived here till they both passed.

During these years, she loved working with her stained glass business “Jean’s Fantasy in Glass.” Jean sold her glass art to individuals, private orders and every year at the Christmas crafts sales at the fairgrounds. Jean enjoyed seeing everyone and showing her work. She also loved her home in the redwoods and found great peace there along with her many animals. Jean loved cats and was always helping strays get neutered, spayed and fed. She also had a fascination with hummingbirds. Jean was always interested and interesting. She has left a big space for those who loved her and we will all try to fill that space with all the fun memories she gave us.
