Born and raised in Monitor, Wash., Fred D. Evans graduated from Cashmere High School, where he played football and in one game kicked a punt for 94 yards. During World War II, he served in the Army Air Corps as a crew chief for P51 aircraft used to train pilots. In 1953, he moved with his wife and daughter to Crescent City, where he was the manager of Industrial Electric Service Company for 30 years. He retired to his home in Gasquet on the North Fork of the Smith River. He enjoyed fishing, working on the property, and travel in the U.S. and to Europe. In 2011, he moved to Vancouver, Wash., to be near his family. He passed away after a short illness.

He was survived by his children, Ladene McClaran and Bradley Evans; grandson Dale McClaran and great-granddaughter Avery McClaran.
