Obituary: Donald Marvin Stotler (Feb. 10, 1925 – Nov. 12, 2013)

Donald Marvin Stotler, 88, passed away on Nov. 12, 2013, in Medford, Ore. He was born on Feb. 10, 1925, in Minot, N.D. Having moved from Centralia, Wash., Don was a 61-year resident of Del Norte County.

Don was a veteran, having served with the Marine Corps as a gunner on the USS Iowa during World War II. He was also a member of St. Joseph Catholic Parish, the Knights of Columbus and at one time was a Boy Scout leader. Prior to his retirement, Don was employed by Caltrans for 25 years; previously he had also been employed at Rellim Redwood as a truck driver.In Don’s earlier years, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and traveling in a camper group.

Don is survived by Bonnie Stotler, wife of 65 years; children Greg and wife Kim Stotler of Eureka, Tom Stotler, Pamela and husband Michael Broadbent, all of Crescent City, and Bruce and wife Moira Stotler of McCall, Idaho; 10 grandchildren: Dustin Stotler, Kyla Stotler, Braden Stotler, Joseph Broadbent, Justin Broadbent, Kyle Broadbent, Cody Stotler, Micky Martin, Chloe Kendall and Carson Guzik. He also has 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Ethel Stotler.

Memorial Mass services will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013, at 11 a.m. Private interment will take place at the Del Norte County Veteran’s Cemetery.
