Harriet Cicile Spencer
Harriet Cicile Spencer, 86, of Smith River, Calif., went home to be with the Lord. She moved to Springfield, Mo., in her later years to be near her beloved daughter, youngest son and many grandchildren.

Harriet was born in Grand Rapids, Mich., to Lilburn and Hazel Gregory. She married James Spencer of Smith River, Calif., in 1977 and spent 30 years happily walking the beaches, gardening and baking. James Spencer, beloved husband, passed away in 2007. James and Harriet attended the Church of Christ in Crescent City for 20 years and the Calvary Chapel of the Redwoods for 10 years. Harriet loved her weekly Bible study and inspired her children and grandchildren to walk with Christ. Harriet was an amazing baker and won first place at the Crescent City fair for her famous apple pie. Many family members and friends remember her sticky buns and chocolate chip cookies.

Harriet was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James C. Spencer; her sister, Eloise Spencer; brother Maxwell; daughter Diane Mead; stepson James Spencer and nephews Greg Spencer and Jack Meyers. She is survived by sons Travis Balmain and Michael McMahan, daughter Leslie Balmain, stepdaughters Carolyn Westbrook and Marilyn Heyer as well as grandchildren Brian, Raychele, Jenifer, Matt, Brandon, Nichole, Leorah; seven great-grandchildren and two sisters, Burnis Spencer and Gail Meyers. “The Celebration of her Life” will be held on Nov. 30, 2013, for family and friends in Smith River, Calif. Condolences can be sent to the Balmain Family at P.O. Box 3204 Harbor, Or. 97415.
