A Gasquet woman suffered minor injuries after her vehicle slid down an embankment off U.S. Highway 199 on Saturday.

Seventy-two-year-old Marilyn Strandberg was driving her 1993 Mazda Protege north on the highway when she lost control of her vehicle navigating a left curve about a mile north of South Fork Road around 2 p.m., said California Highway Patrol Officer Dina Hernandez.

The vehicle spun out of control eventually sliding 40 feet down an embankment before hitting a tree on its side, Hernandez said.

Strandberg suffered minor lacerations to her head and hand, Hernandez said.

After Strandberg was removed from the vehicle, she was taken to Sutter Coast Hospital, Hernandez said.

The highway was limited to one-lane traffic for a couple hours while response crews worked to bring the vehicle up to the highway, Hernandez said.
