Obituary: Irene Dora Elea Tedsen (Nov. 21, 1922 – Nov. 29, 2013)

Irene Tedsen, “Rena,” passed away peacefully on Nov. 29, 2013, at the age of 91 and has now been reunited with her husband and with her Lord and Savior. Born in Fort Dick, Calif., Rena spent the majority of her life in Del Norte County, having graduated from Del Norte County High School. She was a farm girl from the beginning to the end and married her high school sweetheart, Paul Tedsen, in December 1943. Rena was a longtime member of the Soroptimist Club and also the Republican Women’s Association. She enjoyed the county fair and for many years entered her flowers for display. She loved cooking, gardening, stamp collecting and, most of all, being with family and friends. She was a devout reader of the Bible. Upon retirement, she and her husband enjoyed family, friends, traveling the world and RVing with the Good Sam Club. They also enjoyed square dancing for many years. Rena was a founding and lifelong member of Grace Lutheran Church.

Rena was recently preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Paul Tedsen. Surviving are daughters Donna Tedsen and Patsy Nettleton and son Mike Tedsen and wife Linda. Grandchildren  are Shawn Nettleton and wife Wendy, Bryan Tedsen and wife Rani, Michael Nettleton, Tracy McCornack, Jason Nettleton and wife Nicole, Jeff Nettleton and wife Colleen. Great-grandchildren are Tevon and Haley McCornack; Taren and Dru Tedsen; Emily, Katelyn, Micah, Rylan and Cadyn Nettleton. Also survived by brother Pete Tomasini and wife Tiney, brother-in-law Jack Tedsen and wife Marie, brother-in-law Glen Smedley and wife Gretchen, sister-in-laws Phyllis Tedsen, and Gertrude Zottola and numerous nieces and nephews.

The memorial services will be held Friday, Dec. 6, 2013 at 2 p.m. at the Grace Lutheran Church in Crescent City. Interment to be held Friday, Dec. 6 at 1 p.m. at the cemetery for those that wish to attend. Immediately following services, family and friends are invited for fellowship at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Grace Lutheran Church, 188 East Cooper Ave, or the Soroptimist Club, P.O. Box 991, in Rena's name.
