Man hospitalized after hit by truck while crossing 101

A Crescent City man was hospitalized Sunday evening after being hit by a truck as he was crossing U.S. Highway 101 on the north side of Crescent City.

Around 9:50 p.m. John Fisher, 23, of Camas Valley, Ore., was driving his 2006 Dodge pickup about 35 mph southbound on U.S. Highway 101 south of Parkway Drive when William D. Giles, 44, stepped into the roadway from a center divider, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The front left side of the pickup truck struck Giles, the CHP stated.

Giles sustained major injuries and was transported to Sutter Coast Hospital, the CHP stated.

He was listed in stable condition Monday.
