Obituary: Robert Eugene Schulze (Aug. 20, 1943 – Nov. 21, 2013)

Robert Eugene Schulze, 70, a long-time Crescent City resident, passed away on Nov. 21, 2013, in Eugene, Ore., from the effects of Agent Orange exposure in Vietnam. Per his request, he has been placed in the Veteran’s Memorial Section of the National Cemetery in Eagle Point, Ore. Bob was born Aug. 20, 1943, in Baker, Ore., to Patrick F. Schulze and Elizabeth Jane Smothers. The family moved to Crescent City in the early 1950s and Bob lived here until joining the U.S. Army in 1967. He served in Vietnam in the U.S. Army as a Specialist 4 and earned the Cross of Gallantry during his time there. He returned to Crescent City after his service and lived and worked here for many years as a welder/fabricator, fisherman and mill worker. He also lived and worked in the Rogue Valley of Oregon.

Bob is survived by his wife, Connee Landers McCasland, and sons Patrick J. Schulze and Michael J. Schulze, all of Eugene, Ore.; his mother, E. Jane Schulze, and sister Patricia J. Bouder of Franklin, Ohio; his sister Elizabeth M. Algis and brother Charles F. Schulze of Crescent City. He was preceded in death by his father, Patrick F. Schulze, and son, Timothy J. Schulze. Any remembrance of Robert may be made to the local Veterans of Foreign War or Disabled American Veterans chapter.
