Cleanup effort seeks volunteers

Volunteers are being sought for a community cleanup Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. off Elk Valley Road.

Conducted by Our Daily Bread Ministries in conjunction with the Take a Bite Out of Blight Program, volunteers will help with picking up trash along Union and Broad streets.

Volunteers are asked to meet at the end of Iowa Street, off Elk Valley Road east of U.S. Highway 101. Bring gloves and rakes if available, otherwise they will be provided, along with bottled water.

City seeks wireless improvements

The Crescent City Council on Monday unanimously agreed to allocate space on the cell phone tower at its corporation yard to the county to improve wireless Internet connection at the airport.

The agreement will also improve wireless connections at the county’s agricultural department, juvenile hall and emergency services trailer, according to the city’s staff report. The city’s cell phone tower provides a clear line of site to areas that would otherwise be obstructed by buildings or trees, according to the report.

The agreement will be a month-to-month contract with the county, said City Manager Eugene Palazzo.

The cost is estimated to be $30-$50 annually due to power consumption, but the county will not be charged an annual fee. The wireless equipment will be purchased, installed and maintained by Del Norte County’s information technology staff.
