The Del Norte County Sheriff’s Office aided in an investigation of a local man who was being monitored in a child pornography investigation by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

Jesus A. Portillo, 18, was arrested on suspicion of exchanging obscene matter, said sheriff’s Commander Bill Steven.

A search warrant was served at unit 12 in the Pine Grove Mobile Home Park off Northcrest Drive early Tuesday in connection to a child pornography network, Steven said.

“We were contacted by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security last month in regards to an ongoing global child exploitation and pornography investigation,” said Steven. “They have information that explicit images of children were being electronically exchanged from that location.”

When authorities contacted Portillo he admitted to trading sexual images of children, Steven said.

Authorities have found more than 700 images and were told they would find 1 terabyte worth of child pornography animation, Steven said.

None of the pornography was produced locally,
Steven said.

The investigation is ongoing as authorities pore through the electronics seized from Portillo’s residence.
